Yes, anybody can pay off the loan, although the title rights and responsibilities belong exclusively to the party listed on the title and loan unless otherwise specified.

If the loan is paid with guaranteed funds (cashier’s check, cash, or new loan proceeds) the lien card or title will be requested from the DMV immediately.

If the loan is paid with a personal check, we will wait ten business days before we release the lien card or title.

KeyPoint does not currently have construction loans for residential homes, although we have a wide variety of mortgages to meet most needs.

If you've built up a stock portfolio, selling those stocks to finance something like a new car, a wedding, or your child's college education could result in expensive capital-gains taxes. A wiser option may be to take out a stock-secured loan from KeyPoint.

KeyPoint will loan up to 50% of the value of your stock listed on the American or New York Stock Exchanges. Loan terms up to 60 months (five years) are available. The stock must be in certificate form. The certificates will be held by KeyPoint during the term of your loan.

Generally there is no tax benefit on these loans. You would need to consult a tax professional for tax implications. The primary tax benefit would be a possible savings on capital gains taxes if the stock were sold instead of secured for a loan.

The interest rate for your specific loan is determined by the amount of risk we take that you may default on the loan. If you have an outstanding credit history and an excellent credit score, your rate will be low. If you have a lower credit score due to limited loan experience or previous issues, your rate will be higher.

The vehicle title, also known as a pink slip or registration, is electronically released by KeyPoint 10 business days after the loan is paid off. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will create a paper title and mail it to the owner. You should receive the paper title approximately 10 to 14 days later. 

In most cases, your real estate taxes and homeowner’s insurance cost are added to your monthly loan payment and held in an escrow account on your behalf.  The tax bill is sent directly to KeyPoint, and we will pay it from your escrow funds when it is due. There are some exceptions where we won’t require an escrow account, and you can pay them directly.

If your loan-to-value is greater than 80%, KeyPoint requires an escrow account for the payment of real estate taxes and insurance.  If your loan-to-value is less than 80%, you may request to waive the escrow account requirement and pay these items yourself.

Yes, all properties secured by a KeyPoint mortgage require proof of homeowner’s insurance.  If your property is located in a flood zone, we will also require proof of flood insurance.

If your loan is set up with an escrow account, KeyPoint will obtain the property tax bill directly from the government. If your loan is approved for you to pay the taxes directly, we do not need a copy of the tax bill.

Mortgage lenders that pay real estate taxes through escrow, request and receive tax bills electronically.  You, as the property owner, will always receive a tax bill for your records.

A mortgage note (also known as a real estate lien note) is a “promissory” note where you “promise” to repay the mortgage or home loan. The note is basically a contract that spells out the terms of the loan, including the interest rate, monthly payments, and length of time to fulfill the promise.

Freddie Mac is a quasi-governmental agency that purchases conventional mortgages from approved banks, credit unions, and mortgage bankers.

An escrow account (also called an impound account) is opened on your behalf to hold money collected by KeyPoint so we can pay your homeowner’s insurance and property taxes when they become due.

KeyPoint will normally add the cost of your insurance and taxes to your monthly payment, since the annual expense is usually several thousand dollars. By paying a little every month into your escrow account, you ensure that there are sufficient funds for KeyPoint to pay these expenses on your behalf. 

Like most lenders, KeyPoint prefers borrowers to have an escrow account so we can ensure that your insurance and tax payments are made on time.

The specific cost for your refinance will vary based on your unique situation. Typical fees include an appraisal fee, title charges, closing fees, and state or local taxes.

Other fees include the credit report fee, settlement or closing fee, survey fee, tax service fees, title insurance fees, flood certification fees, and courier/mailing fees. There are also KeyPoint fees, such as document preparation fees and loan processing fees.

A mortgage is a loan to finance the purchase of your home. Similar to a car loan, your home is used as collateral for the loan. A mortgage is also a legal contract you sign to promise that you'll repay the loan with interest and other costs, typically over 15 to 30 years.

To repay the loan, you would make monthly installments or payments that typically include the principal loan amount, interest, taxes and insurance. If you don't repay the loan, your lender has the right to take back the property and sell it to cover the debt.

The specific amount of your closing costs will vary based on your unique situation. Typical fees include an appraisal fee, title charges, closing fees, and state or local taxes.

Other fees include the credit report fee, settlement or closing fee, survey fee, tax service fees, title insurance fees, flood certification fees, and courier/mailing fees. There are also KeyPoint fees, such as document preparation fees and loan processing fees.

Once you apply for your loan, we will be able to provide you with a full summary of all estimated fees, and you will be under no obligation to proceed with the loan.

A HELOC is a revolving line of credit that works like a credit card — except it’s secured by your home. You can withdraw money as needed up to a maximum limit, pay the balance to zero and re-use the line for a set time frame called a draw period.

The benefit of a home equity loan or line of credit is to provide access to cash for things like home repairs, remodeling, medical or college expenses. Borrowing against your home's equity may have tax advantages (consult your tax advisor), and doing so may provide a lower interest rate than other options, such as credit cards or personal loans.

To get the insurance refund processed/posted to your loan it takes about two weeks from the date the Declaration Page is received by the Insurance Department.

Declaration Page document (proof of insurance) can be faxed to the insurance department at (866) 254-1571 or emailed to us at [email protected].

Please contact the local DMV office. They will provide you with a form for the title transfer. You will also need to submit a written request to us and include a copy of your driver’s license and a copy of your current registration.

It takes three to four weeks to receive a title after your loan is paid off/closed. Please ensure the address you have on file and the address with DMV is up to date/accurate prior to closing the loan.

There are various ways to submit payments and deposits to KeyPoint.

  • Online:  Set up your own automatic payments via online banking – log in at https://kpcu.com/
  • KeyPoint Mobile App: You first write a check. Then log in to the KeyPoint Mobile app and use the Mobile Deposit feature. You take a picture of your check and then choose the loan account to “deposit” your check and, therefore, make the payment.
  • By Mail:  Please mail all payments and deposits to KeyPoint Credit Union, ATTN:  Loan Payments, 2150 Trade Zone Blvd, Suite 200, San Jose, CA 95131.  Payments and deposits must be accompanied by the account number or payment billing statement coupon.  Only checks or money orders should be sent by mail.
  • Recurring ACH Payment:  Set up recurring deposits or payments from a checking or savings account from another financial institution.  The ACH Deposit/Withdrawal Authorization form can be found online at https://kpcu.com/.
  • One-Time ACH Payment Using Your Mobile Device:  Set up a one-time payment using your mobile device please visit https://kpcu.com/textpayment.  If you are paying with an external account (not a KeyPoint account) there is a $5.00 processing fee.  We accept the following payment methods over the phone: Visa Debit Card, Master Card or Discover Credit Card, as well as ACH – via Checking or Savings accounts.

The cardholder must contact us to confirm whether the transactions were authorized or not, and we always recommend contacting KeyPoint prior to traveling out of the country so we can make sure your card transactions are not accidentally blocked for suspicious activity.

Under the requirements of the Federal Patriot Act, all banks and credit unions must perform an identity check on each new customer. We use a "customer identification program" (CIP) that compares your name, address, date of birth, and other identifying features to the information contained on your credit report. This does not affect your credit score.

We are also required to maintain records of the information used to verify each person’s identity, including the name, address, and other information.

KeyPoint may also pull a credit report (with your consent) to see if we can pre-approve you for a loan at the time you become a new Member. This will reduce the time required for you to fill out an entire loan application.

Notify us immediately at (888) 255-3637 so we can block your card and prevent further fraud. We will mail you a new card(s), or you can get a replacement instantly at any KeyPoint branch. Or complete and submit a Cardholder Dispute Form so we can research the unauthorized transaction(s).
